What does SEO mean?

In simpler words, it means attracting more visitors to your website by showing up on the first page of search results. You can only do that when Google thinks you have relevant and high-quality information on your website that is worth showing to others.

But you might ask the question, how would a search engine like Google find my website among thousands of other websites?

Well, it’s not really that simple but here’s how it works:

Google has bots or spiders whose main objective is to crawl websites and gather information about the content they can find on the internet. This information is stored in something called “index” which in return is fed back to an algorithm that tries and matches all the data that is relevant to your search query. Obviously, it’s a little bit more complicated as other factors go into this search engine algorithm such as domain authority, keyword optimisation, content length, readability, social metrics and much more. If that is way too complicated for you, all you need to know is that the important part of SEO is Optimisation.

Optimisation is where you need to write rich & informative content, upload it to your site and make sure that this content is readable enough by both Google bots and users who visit your website through search results.

Optimisation is also about making sure that the title tags & meta descriptions are both informative, in the right length and pointing to useful & relevant pages on your website.

Right, that brings us to the most common question…

How long would it take for an SEO campaign to start showing results, in other words, how long would it take me to be on the first page of google search results?

When it comes to SEO, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer nor a magic trick to get you to page one in a span of a few days. You need to make sure that your website is fully optimised and you’re creating fresh and useful content on regular basis. SEO is an ongoing process and will take anywhere between three to six months (even a year) depending on how competitive your industry is and how competitive & popular your selected search terms and keywords are.

OK so if it takes all that time, why would I even consider it for my business?

Good question… SEO is a long-term investment that any business operating in 2020 should invest in. SEO is the new gold. Once you’re on the first page of Google search results, you become visible to thousands if not millions of customers all over the world. Your shop will be open 24/7 for your customers and you’ll be able to sell them at their own convenience.

In addition to that, traffic in 2020 equals to leads and leads will turn into sales (cash!) and who doesn’t want extra cash at the end of the month.

Another important reason, because of excessive mobile usage these days, SEO is becoming more important than ever! People look for things on the go. Wherever they are, they pick up their phones and search for things like, the nearest café, the best restaurant, emergency car repair, red shoes etc..
